************************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (March 24) met the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Mr Arkady Dvorkovich, and the Secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, Mr Ren Xuefeng, during his visit to Hainan for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2016 to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

This was the second official bilateral meeting between Mr Leung and Mr Dvorkovich, following their previous meeting on January 17. During the meeting, Mr Leung said that Hong Kong enjoys the dual advantages of "one country" and "two systems" and can act as a "super-connector" linking the Mainland and the rest of the world. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government would continue to strengthen Hong Kong's status as an international financial and trade centre.

He pointed out that Hong Kong has been playing an active role in facilitating the implementation of the country's Belt and Road Initiative. Noting that Russia is along the Belt and Road, Mr Leung said that the two places could enhance economic and trade co-operation to tap the vast development opportunities brought about by the Initiative. He also encouraged enterprises from Russia to invest in Hong Kong, and to explore business opportunities in the Mainland and Asia through the city.

Mr Leung said that Hong Kong enjoys close economic, trade and cultural ties with Russia, and expressed the hope that both places would continue to enhance exchanges and co-operation on various fronts.

At the meeting with Mr Ren, Mr Leung said that the HKSAR Government would seize the enormous opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative and the National 13th Five-Year Plan of the country, and would actively work with the Guangzhou Municipal Government on the Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone, including actively participating in the development of Nansha and expediting development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao co-operation platforms. He added that Hong Kong and Guangzhou enjoy a close relationship and said he hoped that the two cities would continue to strengthen relations on all fronts, including economic development and youth exchanges.
