Road safety operation to promote safe cycling

     Police conducted a territory-wide campaign between March 16 and March 22 to raise public awareness of safe cycling.
 
     During the operation, the Police used enforcement action to target cycling offences such as failing to comply with traffic signs, including cycling on footway for pedestrian and walking on cycleway. Enforcement action resulted in the issue of 48 verbal warnings and 729 summonses to those who committed offences.
 
     A Police spokesman said that between January and February 2016, there were 270 traffic accidents involving bicycles, resulting in casualties of 257 cyclists, with three fatalities included.
 
     Cyclists are reminded to comply with Road Traffic Ordinance. Offenders committing cycling offences will be prosecuted.
