Theatre du Pif to perform Sarah Kane's "4.48 Psychosis"
*******************************************************

Bonni Chan, the co-artistic director of Theatre du Pif, will stage British playwright Sarah Kane's masterpiece again by collaborating with three talented local musicians in the company's latest production "4.48 Psychosis" in May.

"4.48 Psychosis" was completed by Kane a few months before she committed suicide. The title refers to a specific point in time, just before dawn, when Kane, who was a victim of chronic insomnia and depression, used to frequently wake up. Statistically, the early morning hours are a time at which many suicides are committed. Chan described Kane's work as a "masterful demonstration of ecstasy and control interspersed with moments of bare honesty".

Directed and performed solely by Chan for her first time with live music by Chan Wai-fat, Lau Chi-bun and Gabriel Fung, the production is characterised by a poetic intensity and pared-down language. A demonstration presenting segments developed from the play will be arranged before the performances aiming at sharing with the audiences how the performer and musicians are inspired by the play.

"4.48 Psychosis" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be performed at 8.30pm on May 12, 13 and 15 (Thursday, Friday and Sunday) and at 4pm on May 14 and 15 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The performances on May 15 will be in Cantonese while the other performances will be in English. The demonstration (in Cantonese and English) will be conducted at 5pm on April 17 (Sunday) at Rehearsal Room GR2 of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. This programme contains coarse language.

Tickets priced at $160 and $240 for the performances and at $30 for the demonstration are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
