About 7 000 vacancies on offer at Wan Chai Job Expo
***************************************************

The Labour Department will hold the Wan Chai Job Expo at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai on March 16 and 17.

With the theme of "Building a Multi-culture Workplace", the Expo aims to provide a convenient platform to enhance the employment opportunities of job seekers, in particular the ethnic minorities, and promote their awareness of the Labour Department's employment services.

A total of 88 organisations will participate in the Expo. Forty participating organisations will set up counters and conduct on-the-spot recruitment each day. They mainly come from the catering, retail and property management industries, offering about 7 000 vacancies for job seekers of all cultural backgrounds.

In addition, eight training organisations will provide information on training courses to job seekers. Exhibition materials introducing the employment services of the Labour Department and some job advertisements with openings that may be suitable for ethnic minority job seekers will be displayed in a mini-exhibition.  Instantaneous translation services for Hindi, Urdu and Nepalese speakers have also been arranged.

The vacancies offered by participating employers cover a wide variety of positions such as interpreter/translator, clerk, fitness instructor, clubhouse attendant, technician, room attendant, baggage handler, cashier, shop assistant, bartender/barista, cook, waiter/waitress, storekeeper, security guard, driver, cleaner and others. Job seekers can find more information on the department's Interactive Employment Service website (www.jobs.gov.hk).

Around 74 per cent of the vacancies are full-time jobs. Most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $8,000 to $16,000. Around 97 per cent of the vacancies require a Secondary Six education level or below. Over 67 per cent are open to job seekers who may lack relevant experience.

Job seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews. They can also register for employment services and make enquiries on the Work Incentive Transport Subsidy Scheme at the Labour Department's counter.

The Expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at Southorn Stadium, 1/F, 111 Johnston Road, Wan Chai (MTR Wan Chai Station Exit A3). Admission is free.
