Police officers issued a total of 1,003 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 58 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (March 11).
During the operation, a total of 346 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 825 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 178 for other traffic offences.
Besides, eight pedestrians and 104 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 449 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to February 2016, of which 140 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 42.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
