The following is issued on behalf of the Financial Services Development Council:

The Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) and Hong Kong Baptist University today (March 8) jointly hosted a forum to share with university students the career opportunities in the banking sector.

Entitled "Careers in Banking", the forum was the eighth event under the FSDC's Practitioner Speakers Series, and provided students with an opportunity to gain insight into a financial practitioner's day-to-day work.

Opened by the Head of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Professor Stouraitis Aristotelis, today's forum featured the Asia-Pacific Advisor of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Mr George Leung, who also serves as a member of the Mainland Opportunity Committee of the FSDC. Mr Leung presented the students and young graduates with a broad spectrum of career options in the banking sector, briefing them on the different job natures and responsibilities of major posts in a bank. He also shared details of his 20 years of work experience at a multinational bank and his various roles within the senior management team of the bank.

The FSDC's Practitioner Speakers Series is a project developed between FSDC and local universities, with speakers from the financial services industry giving talks to university students on important industry topics and the skill sets required in developing a career in financial services.

About the FSDC

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government established the FSDC in 2013 as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.

The FSDC set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee, as the five streams of its work.
