Gammon Construction Limited, Multiple Renovation Limited and I Pipe Technologies Limited were fined $40,000, $30,000 and $260,000 respectively at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (March 7) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Confined Spaces) Regulation and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on September 1, 2014 on a foundation site in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon. Two workers whilst conducting pipe clearing work were found collapsed inside an underground sewage pipe, resulting in one death and one casualty.
