María Pagés Compañía to return with flamenco dance work "I, Carmen" (with photos)
********************************************************

Internationally renowned flamenco dance artist María Pagés will lead her dance company on a visit to Hong Kong again for three performances of "I, Carmen" in May.

To transcend the myth of the femme fatale created by Prosper Mérimée, Pagés choreographed "I, Carmen" to reflect the real lives and feelings of women. Carmen is not a femme fatale but an ordinary woman. This new personal creative path taken by Pagés is deeply rooted in her desire to talk about women, drawing on her own vital, emotional, physical, sentimental and creative life experiences as a woman - as a flamenco dancer, choreographer, Andalusian, Spaniard and passionate advocate of universality.

Born in Seville, María Pagés is internationally renowned for her personal concept of the aesthetics of flamenco art. She understands art as being unlimited and justly holds her own place in the world of dance. She has received numerous prestigious dance awards, including the National Dance Award for Creation (Spain's highest dance award), the Leonide Massine Prize for the Art of Dance, eight Giraldillo Awards at the Flamenco Biennial in Seville and the Prize for Culture from the Community of Madrid.

In 1990, Pagés established María Pagés Compañía. Since then, the company has performed on the world's best and most prestigious stages, and has also undertaken tours with social objectives in various countries.

"I, Carmen" by María Pagés Compañía is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on May 27 and 28 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on May 29 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. Tickets priced at $180, $270, $360 and $450 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
