The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold the "Meet-the-Authors 2016" talk series, with a theme of "Up Against CompetitionĦECelebrate Your Path in Life", from March to November. Nineteen authors will share with readers their personal and success stories.
The talks will be held at various public libraries and are divided into three series, namely "Compete Yourself", "Cope with Change" and "Fly Up to the Sky". Young people, students and other interested parties are welcome to attend. All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.
Ten talks will be held from March to May.
In the series entitled "Compete Yourself", the founder of a social enterprise, Ms Ada Ho, will share her personal experience on April 2; author and psychological trainer, Ms Chiang Wai-yu, will talk about how to cope with a sense of helplessness in difficult times by sharing her personal experience on April 9; orienteering athlete, Mr Ng Chun-ting, will pick the most unforgettable competition he joined, and relate how this changed his and other participants' outlook on life, on April 30; and long-distance running athlete and teacher, Mr Ho Hoi-to, will share his experience in running and marathon racing on May 21.
In the series entitled "Cope with Change", one of the Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 2014, Mr Lai Chi-wai, will teach readers how to cope with day-to-day challenges in a positive manner on March 19; the Chairman of the Hong Kong Amputees Sport Association, Mr Fung Kam-hung, will talk about how to train oneself to adapt to changes on April 16; the Programme Director of the Education Centre for Positive Psychology, Mr Paul Cheung, will introduce research findings in positive psychology and share how to enhance positive emotions on May 7; and author of children's literature and volunteer in education, Mr Chan Hung, who was once a headmaster, will discuss the changes in his daily life and mentality after he became a volunteer in education on May 28.
In the series entitled "Fly Up to the Sky", the Executive Director of Hung Fook Tong Group, Dr Szeto Wing-fu, will discuss what is eternal in the process of change on March 12; and Adjunct Professor, Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and ex-Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Professor Lam Chiu-ying, will share his experience in developing an interest in astronomy on April 16.
