Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at airport (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 1.8 kilograms of suspected cocaine with a market value of about $2 million at Hong Kong International Airport today (February 29) and arrested an incoming female passenger.

     The arrested woman arrived at Hong Kong from Johannesburg, South Africa via Dubai, United Arab Emirates. During Customs clearance, Customs officers found four packs of suspected cocaine concealed inside the girdle she wore.

     The arrested woman, aged 24, who claimed to be a merchant, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 1).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
