Over 400 young musicians to perform in Music Office Annual Gala

     More than 400 young musicians from the orchestras, bands and choirs of the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will perform in the 2016 Music Office Annual Gala at 3pm on March 27 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

     Under the batons of Dr Angelina Au, Kwok Kin-ming, Palas Chan, Pak Wing-heng, Dr Joseph Kam, Maxine Cheung, Lee Sing-wan and Ng Ka-ming, the musicians will perform a diverse selection of Chinese and Western music works. The musicians are members of the Music Office Youth Choir, the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band, the Hong Kong Youth Strings and the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra under the Music Office.

     The programme highlights will include the enchanting "I am not Yours", to be performed by the Youth Choir; the majestic piece "A Glorious Chapter in History - On the Centenary of the 1911 Revolution", to be performed by the Youth Choir and the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra; the sonorous handbell and band piece "Bells", to be performed by the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band including the percussion trainees; Sibelius' lyrical "Andante Festivo", to be performed by the Hong Kong Youth Strings; and selections from the 20th century orchestral masterpiece the "The Planets", to be performed by the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra.

     Other performances will include the traditional spiritual piece "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?", choral highlights from the popular animated Walt Disney film "Frozen", the brass appreciation piece "Brass Memorial (Dai Rappa Kuyou)", Josef Suk's light and cheerful "Serenade for Strings in E flat major, Op. 6" and Gustav Holst's "St Paul Suite".

     Awards will also be presented to outstanding trainees and members of the Music Office's bands, choirs and orchestras.
