Police officers issued a total of 1,030 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 72 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (February 23).
During the operation, a total of 401 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 859 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 171 for other traffic offences.
Besides, 79 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 244 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January this year, of which 66 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 43.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
