Hong Kong Customs detected a suspected drug trafficking case at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (February 15) and arrested an incoming female passenger and seized about 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine, with a market value of about $1.6 million.
The arrested female arrived at Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai, United Arab Emirates yesterday. During Customs clearance, Customs officers found five cans of luncheon meat inside her luggage. In-depth examination led to the discovery of 1.5kg of suspected cocaine.
The arrested female, aged 25 and claimed to be a businesswoman, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (February 17).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
