Heads of disciplinary forces condemn violence and fully support police enforcement
********************************************************

The Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Roy Tang; the Director of Immigration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki; the Director of Fire Services, Mr Lai Man-hin; the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Yau Chi-chiu; and the Acting Controller of the Government Flying Service, Mr Trevor Marshall, issued the following statement today (February 12):

We are deeply concerned about the riot that took place in Mong Kok a few days ago. In blatant defiance of the law, the mobs damaged public property, set fires in multiple locations and constantly attacked police officers and journalists at the scene. Such reprehensible behaviour went far beyond what can be accepted by Hong Kong society. As heads of law enforcement departments, we strongly condemn the mobs' violent acts, and do not agree with people putting up excuses for the savage acts in an attempt to shift attention. We fully support the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, and all colleagues in the Hong Kong Police Force and appreciate their efforts and contributions in upholding the rule of law and stability in Hong Kong. We extend our deep sympathy to the injured police officers and wish them a speedy recovery. They were injured while maintaining law and order, and deserve our respect. As in the past, the disciplinary forces will stand united and continue to contribute to Hong Kong's law and order and stability.
