"Colourful Youth" to be rescreened in "Restored Treasures: HKFA 15th Anniversary Presentation" (with photos)
***********************************************************

"Restored Treasures: HKFA 15th Anniversary Presentation", organised by the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will rescreen "Colourful Youth" (1966) on March 6 at 2pm at the HKFA Cinema as tickets for the first two screenings have sold out. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, the HKFA is also presenting the newly restored "Colourful Youth" in a two-DVD box set.

Over the years, the HKFA has been dedicated to preserving Hong Kong film heritage and has collaborated with overseas experts to restore a number of important works, including two versions of the '60s Cantonese musical classic "Colourful Youth". The newly restored version is complemented with precious footage that was recently found, making it closer to the original theatrical release.

Co-starring Connie Chan Po-chu and Josephine Siao Fong-fong, "Colourful Youth" was shot in Eastmancolor. It features choreographed musical scenes and the trendiest fashions of the time, with several interlude songs that became household tunes. The film is in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles.

Apart from containing the 2015 newly restored version and the 2011 original restored version, the two-DVD box set also features interviews with film veterans such as Woo Fung, Nancy Sit Kar-yin, and Ha Yu, as well as conservators and a film critic. The accompanying booklet contains Connie Chan's oral account on the film, as well as the biography and filmography of writer-director Chan Wan.

The two-DVD box set priced at $160 is now on sale at the HKFA. Tickets for the additional screening priced at $50 will be available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk) from tomorrow (February 5).
