Ngai Wah Glass & Mirror Limited was fined $20,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (February 3) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on March 31, 2015 at a roadside in Chai Wan. During an unloading operation of glass panels from the trailer of a tractor truck using a lorry-mounted crane, a worker who remained between the truck trailer and the crane in order to assist the unloading work was trapped, causing his death, as another vehicle travelling on the road hit the wire slings of the crane, thus dragging it forward and crushing the worker.
