Hong Kong Customs yesterday (February 2) seized about 2 kilograms (kg) of suspected methamphetamine and a small amount of suspected cannabis in Mong Kok, and arrested two men and a woman. The total market value of the drugs seized was about $595,000.

During an anti-narcotics operation in Mong Kok yesterday afternoon, Customs officers intercepted a man and a woman and found about 2kg of suspected methamphetamine inside the rucksack the man carried. The man and the woman were arrested at the scene. Subsequent premises search at the man's residence nearby resulted in a further seizure of a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, suspected cannabis and a set of drug-packaging paraphernalia. Another man found in the premises was also arrested.

The two men, aged 50 and 53, and the woman, aged 28, all claimed to be unemployed. They were arrested for suspected trafficking in dangerous drugs. The case is still under investigation.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
