Acclaimed pianist Jacky Wong will collaborate with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra for two concerts featuring Beethoven's piano concertos.
Wong will conduct and perform, from the keyboard, "Piano Concerto No. 1 in C, 3rd movement", "Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat, 1st movement", the complete "Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor", "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G, 2nd movement" and "Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat, 'Emperor', 3rd movement".
Founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organised ensemble which aims to promote music among the general public, especially Hong Kong's young generation. Through popular music and concert talks the orchestra has successfully introduced classical music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, bringing greater awareness of the city's indigenous culture.
First in Asia and Australia to conduct the complete Beethoven piano concertos from the keyboard, Jacky Wong graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Hong Kong and Australia. Wong has also been assistant conductor of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and music director of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra. He is currently chief conductor of the Guangxi Symphony Orchestra.
"Jacky Wong's Beethoven Piano Concertos" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The concerts will be staged at 8pm on March 11 (Friday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall and at 8pm on March 12 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Yuen Long Theatre.
