SCS visits Hong Kong Police Force (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, visited the Hong Kong Police Force's Kowloon East Operational Base today (February 2) to learn more about police work and to take the opportunity to meet staff of various ranks.

     Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Alfred Chau, Mr Cheung first met with officers of the Accident Investigation Team and the Enforcement and Control Division, Traffic Kowloon East Region. Mr Cheung was briefed on different vehicles and equipment by front-line staff and learned more about their work, which includes deterring drink driving and speeding, and investigating traffic accidents. He said he was pleased to know that the traffic officers uphold professionalism in responding to road accidents efficiently and endeavouring to reduce traffic incidents so as to enhance road safety.

     Mr Cheung then talked to a team of officers of the Operations Wing and members of the Headquarters Response Contingent to better understand their roles in operations. They are responsible for dealing with large-scale public events as well as enhancing public understanding of and support for the roles and responsibilities of the Police in maintaining public order and public safety for the community. Mr Cheung said he was glad to note that the Force deploys manpower flexibly to ensure public order and safety of public events through effective planning, communication and execution.

     Before concluding his visit, Mr Cheung met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on relevant issues of concern and to learn more about the challenges front-line staff face when they serve the public. He praised colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue to perform their duties efficiently and provide excellent services amid the ever-changing environment to ensure that Hong Kong remains one of the safest and most stable societies in the world.
