Wounding case in Wong Tai Sin reclassified as murder

     Police today (February 1) reclassified a wounding case in Wong Tai Sin on January 7.

     About 9.50am that day, Police received a report that a man was being assaulted in a park at 30 Heng Lam Street, Wong Tai Sin. Upon arrival, Police officers located a 61-year-old man who sustained neck injuries. The man reportedly disputed with a 59-year-old man and was pushed to the ground in the process.

     After initial investigations, Police arrested the 59-year-old man for wounding at the scene that day.

     The 61-year-old man was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in conscious state on January 7 but he was certified dead at 10.24am today.

     Upon investigation, Police reclassified the case as murder. The man is now being detained pending further enquiries.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.

     Active investigations by the District Crime Squad of Wong Tai Sin are under way.
