US puppet theatre to perform "Super Cool Underwater Blacklight Adventure"
****************************************************

Spyglass Theater from the United States will visit Hong Kong to give four performances of its puppetry show "Super Cool Underwater Blacklight Adventure" in March.

A deep-sea blacklight puppetry show exploring marine ecology, "Super Cool Underwater Blacklight Adventure" follows Professor Nautilus, who has invented an ingenious contraption to explore the mysteries of the ocean. As well as being entertained by the skilled puppetry, members of the audience will also learn about the movement of seahorses and shellfish, find out how sea turtles take a bath and what hatchet fish and octopuses do to distract their predators.

Spyglass Theater was founded in 1995 in Seattle, United States. The name Spyglass was chosen to suggest the idea of examining something close-up, as if through a small telescope. The theatre's puppeteers are inspired by the scale and depth of the natural world and specialise in producing and performing blacklight puppetry shows which illustrate the natural world. The group hopes audiences' awareness of conservation and environmental protection will be enhanced when they learn more about the natural world and its inhabitants.

"Super Cool Underwater Blacklight Adventure" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 7.30pm on March 25 (Friday) and at 2.30pm on March 26 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tai Po Civic Centre, at 5pm on March 27 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of the North District Town Hall and at 2.30pm on March 28 (Monday) at the Cultural Activities Hall of Tuen Mun Town Hall. The March 26 performance will be in English while other performances will be in Cantonese.

A workshop will be held at 2.30pm on March 27 at the North District Town Hall. Participants can create and perform their own story with self-made puppets using simple materials.

Tickets priced at $130 and $180 for the performances and at $80 for the workshop are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
