Acclaimed guzheng artist Chen Anhua to perform two recitals in February

     Acclaimed guzheng virtuoso Chen Anhua will stage two recitals to delight Hong Kong music lovers in February. Details are as follows:

February 27 (Saturday), 8pm
Theatre, Yau Ma Tei Theatre

February 28 (Sunday), 7.30pm
Xiang Hai Xuan Multi-purpose Hall, Nan Lian Garden
Tickets: $240 (free seating)

Programme: "Wild Geese on the Sandbank" (in light-six mode), "Pining for the Secular World" (in light-six mode), "Yi-Dian-Jin" (in light-six mode), "The Little Red Peach" (in light-six mode), "Lamentation in the Boudoir" (in live-three-five mode), "Universal Joy" (in live-three-five mode), "The Lotus Rising from the Water" (in heavy-three-six mode), "Fish Hawks Dabbling in the Water" (in heavy-three-six mode), "Liu Qingniang" (in heavy-three-six mode) and (in light-three-and-heavy-six mode), "As the Waves Wash the Sand" (in light-three-and-heavy-six mode) and "Xiao-Liang-Zhou" (in fanxian mode). "Fu-De-Ci" (in live-three-five mode) and "River-crossing Dragon" (in heavy-three-six mode) will only be performed in the first concert.

     One of the founders of the South China stylistic school of guzheng music, Chen Anhua has won acclaim as the top guzheng player in the South China region. In the coming concerts, Chen Anhua and his son, Chen Weimin will perform on the guzheng solo, and also take to the stage with Li Xianlie (Chaozhou erxian), Zhao Laizhou (pipa), Lin Yishu (yangqin) and Xu Xiangxi (tihu) to offer the audience a selection of Chaozhou music in different modes.

     Chen Anhua is a famous teacher and is currently on the faculty of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, where he is a supervisor on the master's degree programme for guzheng. Chen was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in Chinese Music by the China Nationalities Orchestra Society in 2011, and received an Outstanding Achievement Award in Chinese guzheng from the Guzheng Society of the Chinese Musicians Association in 2013.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Guzheng Recital by Chen Anhua" is one of the attractions of the Lingnan Music Series and the Nan Lian Garden Music Series.      A demonstration talk entitled "Chaozhou and Hakka Guzheng" (in Cantonese) will be held at 2.30pm on February 28 (Sunday) at the Xiang Hai Xuan Multi-purpose Hall of Nan Lian Garden. The speaker and demonstrator will be Chen Anhua. Admission is free with limited seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
