Seven nomination forms received for Legislative Council New Territories East by-election

     Seven nominations forms had been received by the Returning Officer for the Legislative Council New Territories East geographical constituency by-election by the close of the nomination period today (January 18).

     The nominees' names, occupations, political affiliations and dates of nomination are as follows:

     A full list of the validly nominated candidates for the by-election will be published in the gazette after the Returning Officer has validated and confirmed the eligibility of candidature of the nominees.

     A poll will be held on February 28 (Sunday) should there be more than one validly nominated candidate.

     The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold a briefing for candidates and their agents at Sha Tin District Council Conference Room, 4/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin, New Territories, at 6.30pm on January 20 (Wednesday).

     The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, will chair the briefing and introduce the guidelines on election-related activities. A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. The Returning Officer and representatives from the Registration and Electoral Office, Hongkong Post and the Department of Justice will also be present.

     After the briefing, the Returning Officer will determine by drawing lots the order of the names of candidates on ballot papers and the allocation of designated spots for the display of election advertisements.
