Cluster of Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 cases in Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Cheshire Home, Chung Hom Kok, made the following announcement today (January 15):

     Ten patients (seven male and three female, aged 47 to 70) of three long-stay wards had presented with respiratory tract infection symptoms since December 25, 2015. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and five of them tested positive for Parainfluenza Virus Type 3. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Admission to the wards concerned has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
