The spokesperson for Shatin Hospital (SH) gave the following update today (January 14) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of inpatients as carriers of Drug Resistant Acinetobacter in a male medicine and geriatrics ward:
The hospital has stepped up screening procedures and today confirmed one more male patient (aged 72) as a Drug Resistant Acinetobacter carrier but without clinical symptoms. The patient has been discharged.
SH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation on the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
