SCED speaks on Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2014
**********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, on the Copyright (Amendment) Bill 2014 before attending the Hong Kong Licensing Awards 2015 and Asian Licensing Awards 2015 presentation ceremony today (January 12):

Reporter: ... have there been many breakthroughs ...?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I cannot say there was a breakthrough this morning, but I think there was a good, very frank and open exchange of information conveyed on the other side. Dennis (Legislative Council (LegCo) member Mr Dennis Kwok) came from an angle that he sided with the netizens, but I would like him, as a professional, to look at from the legal point of view, and copyright is really a balancing act. And I think the copyright owners alliance (Hong Kong Copyright Alliance), they have conveyed their concern to him from a practical manner. So I think there was a good exchange, that at least (we were) able to sit together. The alliance had indicated that they have difficulties securing appointments with certain LegCo members, and so this is why I offer my help in terms of arranging this meeting. We will have more meetings tomorrow, actually we will have one meeting tomorrow with more (LegCo) members.
