HK Central Library to hold talk on City of Victoria and Kowloon Walled City
********************************************************

The Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a seminar entitled "Tales of Two Cities in Hong Kong" at 3pm on January 31 (Sunday) at the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Central Library. Guest speaker Mr Jacky Yu, the founder of Old Hong Kong Photos, will use historic photographs, maps and literature to illustrate the development of the City of Victoria and the Kowloon Walled City on both sides of Victoria Harbour.

In the beginning of the colonial period, the Hong Kong Government established the City of Victoria on Hong Kong Island, spanning from Kennedy Town to Causeway Bay, as the centre of politics, finance and culture. At the same time across the harbour, the Qing Government built the Kowloon Walled City to administer the land in the north of today's Kowloon City.

Mr Yu is a teacher at a local secondary school. He has been collecting old Hong Kong photos from the public since 2006 and established the website Hong Kong Old Photos in 2012 to publish those images. Through the establishment of this online museum, he hopes to provide a channel for the public to appreciate the old days of Hong Kong and to learn about the city's history and development.

The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese with free admission on a first-come, first-served basis. For enquiries, please call 2921 0351.
