Lantau Development Advisory Committee submits First-term Work Report to CE
*********************************************************

Regarding the First-term Work Report submitted by the Lantau Development Advisory Committee today (January 10), the Chief Executive, Mr CY Leung, issued the following statement:

"The Lantau Development Advisory Committee (the Committee) has drawn on collective wisdom for more than two years and submitted to me its First-term Work Report today.

"Lantau, the biggest island in Hong Kong, is located at the southern tip of the Pearl River Delta. Large-scale infrastructures, including Tuen Mun - Chek Lap Kok Link, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the third runway of Hong Kong International Airport, will turn the geographical condition of Lantau from an outlying island to a significant region of Hong Kong.

"The Committee has fully considered the current situations of various districts in Lantau, including the conservation needs and the development potential, and put forward its vision and its recommendation on short-term work.

"The report has been uploaded to the Government website for public review. I hope that members of the public will continue to proactively provide your comments in order to plan, develop and conserve Lantau together.

"I thank all members of the Committee and colleagues of the Development Bureau for their effort over the period of two years."
