Fatal traffic accident in Tuen Mun

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tuen Mun this morning (January 4) in which an 83-year-old man died.
 
     At about 6.39am, a Light Rail train driven by a 33-year-old man was travelling along Castle Peak Road ¡V Lam Tei towards Tuen Mun while a bicycle driven by an 83-year-old man was travelling along the bicycle track next to the railway. When the bicycle was crossing the railway, it reportedly collided with the train.
 
     The bicycle driver was trapped under the train and was rescued by firemen. Sustaining multiple injuries, he was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 7.54am. Another 82-year-old female passenger of the bicycle sustained face and limb injuries and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state.

     The Light Rail train driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries and is required to report back to Police in early January.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
