CSD Distance Running Team shares healthy lifestyle spirit with next generation (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) Distance Running Team will participate in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2016 (Hong Kong Marathon) to be held on January 17 this year. The team participates in overseas and local running events, in which some members have achieved good results and even wins.

Team members also promote the healthy lifestyle concept to their families, nurturing a second generation of remarkable runners. Three members in particular have spent their spare time undergoing rigorous distance running training, making themselves role models in promoting distance running among families.

CSD Officer Lam Ka-hei, known as the "King of Ultramarathon in Hong Kong", set a Hong Kong record of 231.4 kilometres in the Soochow University International Ultra Marathon 2015 and won the overall championship in the Jeju International Ultramarathon 2015 (200km). He has effectively improved his son's concentration ability through training him in running.

Assistant Officer I Chu Yau-man hopes that his son can focus on enjoying the process, and not just the results, through exercise. His son is fond of sports and has won many medals in age group competitions in track and field and swimming.

Officer Iu Kwok-fai's daughter returned to work in Hong Kong after overseas study. Having been influenced by her father, she has participated in many long-distance running events with him. The close bond between father and daughter has been strengthened by running.

More than 40 members of the CSD Distance Running Team will participate in different distance events of the Hong Kong Marathon this year to promote the department's healthy and balanced lifestyle concept.

Furthermore, the team will also send representatives to participate in the Disciplined Forces Cup (10km) of the Hong Kong Marathon to compete with runners from other disciplined services departments.

In addition, the Oi Kwan Volunteer Group, formed by CSD staff, will send 55 volunteers to help at an 850-metre section from Marsh Road in Wan Chai to Sugar Street in Causeway Bay. Their tasks will include setting up the course, assisting runners to follow the rules of the organiser, helping emergency vehicles to cross some of the route in emergency situations and managing pedestrians to cross the course during the event.
