Police open fire in Wong Tai Sin

     Police are investigating a Police open fire case in Wong Tai Sin in the small hours of today (January 1).
 
     Shortly after 2am, while Police officers of Wong Tai Sin District were conducting an anti-crime operation, they found a suspicious male at the carpark outside Sze Yu House in Choi Wan Estate. When officers attempted to intercept the 19-year-old man for investigation, he fled away immediately and attacked officers by throwing a torch at them.
 
     Meanwhile, a suspicious private car was leaving the carpark. Officers attempted to stop it for investigation but the two males and a female onboard ignored the warnings given by officers and the car hit a male Police constable. His foot was rolled over by the car.
 
     In the incident, the male Police constable fired two shots at the car and hit the windscreen.
 
     Police arrested the 19-year-old man at scene for assaulting Police officers and he is being detained for enquiries.
 
     The male Police constable sustained foot injuries and was sent to United Christian Hospital in conscious state for medical treatment.
 
     At about 5.50am, Police received a report that a private car at Ma Yau Tong in Tseung Kwan O caught fire. Initial investigation revealed that the cause of fire was suspicious and the private car was in connection with the open fire case.
 
     Investigation by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon East Region is underway. Anyone who witnessed the case or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 5432 9494.
