The Government today (December 24) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Ignatius Chan as Chairman of the Council of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2016.
The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, welcomed Mr Chan's appointment as the PolyU Council Chairman.
"Mr Chan is devoted to public service and has held various important public service appointments. In particular, he has rendered significant contributions to the higher education sector. Mr Chan is a veteran member of the PolyU Council, and has been serving as its Deputy Chairman since 2013. He is well-versed in the governance of PolyU as well as the development of the higher education sector. I am confident that PolyU will continue to scale new heights with Mr Chan at the helm," Mr Ng said.
Mr Ng also paid tribute to Ms Marjorie Yang, the outgoing PolyU Council Chairman.
"Under Ms Yang's sterling leadership, PolyU has firmly established itself as a leading institution that pursues excellence, discovers new knowledge, advances technological development, and promotes the whole-person development of its students. The university has also made great strides in professional education and applied research, receiving wide recognition for its achievements," he said.
