Unconventional Christmas trees put up at public housing estates (with photos)
********************************************************

Unconventional Christmas trees and decorations have been put up at various public housing estates of the Housing Department this festive season to promote environmental awareness.

The trunk of the Christmas tree at On Tin Estate at Lam Tin this year uses plastic bottles of the same type, collected from the tenants, and with compact disc fragments the 2.4-metre-tall Christmas tree looks like an ice sculpture with reflections of the lighting inside. Next to the tree is a lovely sleigh made of used newspapers, wooden chairs, plastic bottles and egg cartons.

A spokesman for the Housing Department said today (December 23) that, apart from the tree at On Tin Estate, Christmas trees created from recycled materials have been put up at Shui Pin Wai Estate and Tin Yiu Estate at Yuen Long, Kwai Fong Estate and Shek Yam Estate at Kwai Tsing, Tsui Ping (South) Estate at Lam Tin and Lai Kok Estate at Sham Shui Po to celebrate the festive season with tenants.
