Music Office Youth Choir and Children's Choir to sing all-time favourites from different countries
******************************************************

The Music Office Youth Choir (MOYC) and the Music Office Children's Choir (MOCC) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will jointly perform their annual concert at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall at 8pm on January 16 (Saturday) next year. Under the title "Our Tales in Songs" the choirs will sing a variety of songs from different countries.

Dr Angelina Au, Chan Wan-hong, Lai Wing-yan and Kobe Ip will be the conductors and pianists. The choirs will sing pieces with a religious theme including Palestrina's classic "Sicut Cervus" (As the Deer), which is full of Renaissance music characteristics; Tavener's "Mother of God, Here I Stand", which shows his unique composing style and religious vision; and the choral duet repertoire "Festival for Two" by Emerson, accompanied by piano.

Other highlights include pieces by modern composers including Rentz's "Peace In Our World" and Jarman's "Towards Infinity"; "1000 Beautiful Things" by famous Scottish pop singer Annie Lennox; choral highlights from the Disney blockbuster "Frozen" and more.

Established in 1980, the MOYC now has 87 members with ages ranging from 14 to 25. In addition to local concerts the choir has also performed overseas including in Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Austria. In 2014, the choir won gold diplomas in both the Youth Mixed Choir and Sacred Choral Music competitions, as well as the Category Winner Award in the Youth Mixed Choir competition at the 2014 "Sing 'n' Joy Vienna" 29th International Schubert Choir Competition held in Austria.

Since its establishment in 1981, the MOCC's membership has grown to 78, with ages ranging from 8 to 15. The choir has performed both Western and Chinese choral works, some of which were local premieres.
