New blood donation promotion campaign (with photos)
***************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) spokesperson said today (December 10) that the blood donation level has been dropping recently due to cold weather and the approach of school examinations. As Christmas and New Year long holidays are coming and many people leave on holiday, it is forecast that blood donations will continue to drop. Additionally, hospitals need to maintain good blood reserve in blood banks for regular use and emergencies during the holidays. The BTS thus urges the public to spare time to give blood.

The BTS will launch a promotion campaign entitled "Will you help save one's life? I will". Every successful blood donor will receive an innovative mobile phone stand from December 11 to 18 while stocks last. Photo props will also be available at all donation points for donors to record the special moment.

A new television and radio commercial, "Will you help save one's life? I will" will start to broadcast from tomorrow (December 11). The BTS has invited artist Daniel Wu to make the appeal in the film on a voluntary basis. He highlights the key message "Will you help save one's life? I will!". He also appeals to the public, saying that "Blood donation is easy to help and it can save life. Each donation can save at least three lives." In addition to local TV and radio stations, the public can also watch this new commercial on the BTS website and the ABO YouTube Channel.

For locations and service hours of donor centres, please call BTS hotline on 2710 1234 or visit homepage at www.ha.org.hk/rcbts.

Let's join hands to maintain an adequate blood supply in Hong Kong. Act now!
