Public alerted to fraudulent websites purporting to be related to insurers
*******************************************************

The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance today (December 2) alerted the public to three fraudulent websites (http://ppm.guoguangdai.com, www.prudentialjunsheng.com and www.hkbxbc.com) that purport to be official websites of two authorised insurers in Hong Kong, Prudential Hong Kong Limited and Prudential General Insurance Hong Kong Limited. The insurers concerned have confirmed that they have no connections with the fraudulent websites.

The cases have been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to these websites or has conducted any insurance transactions through these websites should contact the two insurers via their joint hotline at 2281 1333, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012 or any local police station.

Any company conducting insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the Insurance Authority under the Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap. 41). The full list of authorised insurers in Hong Kong, including their official websites and contact points, can be found at www.oci.gov.hk/download/ins.pdf.
