**********************************************************

The "Freeman Lau & Design: Inter-dependent Decisions" exhibition will be held from tomorrow (December 3) to May 30 next year at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. By viewing the selected works of renowned local designer Freeman Lau, members of the public will be able to understand his contributions to the design and creative industry as well as Hong Kong's cultural development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition today (December 2), the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, said Lau is not only a designer with clear goals in mind but also an artist whose creativity reaches no bounds. This exhibition presents a comprehensive retrospective of Lau's works and offers a thought-provoking journey to visitors, she said.

With Lau's great support, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum is holding the exhibition entitled "Freeman Lau & Design: Inter-dependent Decisions". The exhibition consists of eight sections, covering the cultural, commercial and public art space projects, as well as the "Chairplay" series, which Lau has been involved in over the past years.

The exhibition also shows interviews with Lau and his mentors as well as other designers, artists, friends and partners who have provided support and interacted with him. Visitors can get to know Lau and his design concepts more comprehensively.

Other officiating guests included the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre, Mr Victor Lo; Freeman Lau; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Ms Fione Lo.

Over a creative career spanning 30 years, Lau has won more than 300 international and local awards. He has made significant contributions in enhancing the identity of Hong Kong design overseas and in promoting design education locally, and was thus awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2006. Lau is now the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre and the Secretary General of the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations.

Under the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign, all museums of the Leisure and Culture Services Department will offer free admission for the entire month of January 2016 in order to encourage more visits to museums, where experiences of creativity, enjoyment and inspiration await.
