Under the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign, all museums of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will offer free admission for the entire month of January, 2016. The Campaign aims to encourage more visits to the museums, where experiences of creativity, enjoyment and inspiration await.
Museums with free admission include Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Science Museum, Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, Hong Kong Railway Museum, Sam Tung Uk Museum, Sheung Yiu Folk Museum, Law Uk Folk Museum (where the Hakka House will be open from January 7), Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum, Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery, Oi!, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong Film Archive (except for the Cinema), Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and Ping Shan Tang Clan Gallery.
As the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Hong Kong Space Museum are now closed for renovation work, the two museums will not be open to the public in January.
In January, no tickets are required for entry to the museums and visitors are requested to queue for admission.
Members of the public are welcome to visit both the museums' permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions being held in January, including "Out to Sea? The Plastic Garbage Project" at the Hong Kong Science Museum; "Wonderful Times, Beautiful Images - Calendar Posters and Modern Society in the Republican Period" at the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum; "Freeman Lau & Design: Inter-dependent Decisions" and "Wearable Blessings: Traditional Chinese Children's Clothing" at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum; and "The Radiant Ming 1368-1644 through the Min Chiu Society Collection" at the Hong Kong Museum of History.
