Lo Koon-lan to star in Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Wit" (with photo)
*********************************************************

Local theatre company We Draman Group will stage American playwright Margaret Edson's award-winning play "Wit" in January, featuring renowned actress Lo Koon-lan and Hong Kong Drama Award-winning director Tang Wai-kit.

"Wit", which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1999, focuses on Dr Bearing, a hard-nosed English literature professor who has dedicated her life to the study of poems about death written by the 17th century English poet John Donne. Bearing is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and, out of respect for academic research, agrees to undergo eight rounds of experimental chemotherapy treatment at the maximum dosage. Undergoing the treatment, she starts to question whether the factor pushing her towards death is the cancer or the treatment, which is more unpleasant than anything she has ever experienced.

The cast of "Wit" also includes Pak Yiu-charn, May Fu, Chan Kin-ho, Ng Fung-ming, Shum Kwan-yi, Sarina Cheung, Leung Chak-yu and Tong Ngai-ting.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Wit" (in Cantonese) will be performed at 8pm from January 21 to 23, 2016 (Thursday to Saturday) and at 2.30pm on January 23 and 24, 2016 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $160 and $240 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999.
