Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,087 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 61 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (November 19).
   
     During the operation, a total of 338 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
   
     A total of 844 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 243 for other traffic offences.
   
     Six pedestrians and 121 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
 
     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,357 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October 2015, of which 750 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 39.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
