Road safety operation to promote safe cycling

     Police conducted a territory-wide campaign between November 11 and November 17 to raise public awareness of safe cycling.
 
     During the operation, the Police used enforcement action to target cycling offences such as failing to comply with traffic signs, including cycling on footway for pedestrian and walking on cycleway. Enforcement action resulted in the issue of 118 verbal warnings and 812 summonses to those who committed offences.
 
     A Police spokesman said that between January and October 2015, there were 2 136 traffic accidents involving bicycles, resulting in casualties of 2 040 cyclists, with ten fatalities included.
 
     Cyclists are reminded to comply with Road Traffic Ordinance. Offenders committing cycling offences will be prosecuted.
