Following is the transcript of remarks by the Acting Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session before the Executive Council meeting this morning (November 17):
Reporter: Appreciating Hong Kong has been, some scholars and legislators have been saying, it is only a public relations stunt instead of yielding positive effects. And it also comes at a sensitive timing, like right before District Council Election. So what is your comment? And secondly, will you be visiting Uncle Fat soon?
Acting Chief Executive: As far as the visit to the Honourable Lau Wong-fat is concerned, I visited him some time ago when he was first hospitalised to do an operation. I will find an opportunity to visit him again, whether in hospital or upon his discharge when he's back at home. I'm much assured, yesterday, by another Legislative Council member who had visited the Honourable Lau Wong-fat, that he's in fine condition.
As far as the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign is concerned, as I said, this is a territory-wide public involvement campaign with the objective to sort of instil more positive energy and a sense of confidence amongst people in Hong Kong. I don't know the actual effect. But of course, when we do this campaign, we have that particular objective in mind. It has absolutely nothing to do with elections or electioneering activities. In fact, if you carefully look at the timing of this campaign, we said that we're going to run this campaign for five months, from the first of December to the end of April next year. And so, it will actually only take place after the District Council Election this Sunday and well before society will enter into another election mode for the 2016 Legislative Council Elections.
