SCED speaks on tighter control on tourism market in Hong Kong and Mainland
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to the media on tighter control on the tourism market in Hong Kong and the Mainland after meeting with officials of the China National Tourism Administration in Beijing today (November 11):

Reporter: I understand you have met with Beijing officials today. What has been covered in the meeting and how do they comment on the incident that one of the tourists was killed in Hong Kong?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: We are very glad that today in Beijing we have very constructive and very comprehensive dialogue in exchanging views of both sides of the latest development in Hong Kong as well as the measures that have been proposed by the Hong Kong SAR Government. These measures were recognised and they were held with very high regard by the Mainland authority as very effective measures to target these activities and tackle the problem. Both sides agreed that they will maintain dialogue and co-operation. I think the exchange of information in this regard would be a very effective measure to eliminate the possibility of this happening. Of course, it would take enforcement action and that would be intensified in the future.
