The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) will open four mock polling stations for four days starting next Wednesday (November 18) to help electors familiarise themselves with voting procedures in preparation for the District Council Ordinary Election on November 22.
The four mock polling stations will be set up at Leighton Hill Community Hall, Henry G Leong Yaumatei Community Centre, Tuen Mun Town Hall and Tai Po Community Centre. They will be open from noon to 8pm, from November 18 to 21.
"Through participation in mock polling, electors can familiarise themselves with the set-up of the polling station, and get to know about the proper voting procedures," a spokesman for the REO said today (November 11).
"Voting is very simple and it takes just a few minutes. All electors need to do is to take their identity document to the designated polling station on polling day, where they will be issued a ballot paper, use the chop provided to stamp the ballot paper with a 'tick' in the circle opposite the name of the chosen candidate, and fold the ballot paper inward in half before putting it into the ballot box," he said.
Members of the public will also get to know facilities for electors with special needs at the mock polling stations. These include Braille templates which assist electors with visual impairment to vote, guides on voting procedure in Japanese, Korean and seven ethnic minority languages (Thai, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, Nepali, Punjabi, Urdu and Tagalog), as well as a pictorial voting aid for electors with hearing impairment and electors who are not familiar with Chinese and English to understand the voting procedure.
A hotline (2967 0830) and a fax (2834 0934) have been set up to arrange appointments for group visits. None of the four mock polling stations will be able to accept pre-arranged group visits on November 21 (Saturday) owing to the need to prepare for the poll the next day.
