InnoCarnival 2015 opens today (with photos/video)

     InnoCarnival 2015, organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, opened today (October 31) at the Hong Kong Science Park in Sha Tin.

     The nine-day carnival, which runs from today until November 8, features a series of activities to help promote a culture of innovation and technology in the community.

     Addressing the opening ceremony, the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, said that the Government has been striving to foster a conducive environment for research and development (R&D), and to promote innovation and technology for building a knowledge-based economy with diversified industries.

     He noted that InnoCarnival adopts a lively approach to promote technology in the community, and to boost public's, in particular the younger generation's, interest and understanding in technology. Mr Tsang encouraged young people to familiarise themselves with the latest technologies and launch a career in R&D work, and seek to contribute to the society with innovation, through improving people's living standard as well as environment.

     This year's InnoCarnival carries the theme "InnoTech - Key to a Boundless Future". More than 70 programme partners including universities, R&D centres, professional bodies, government departments, technology enterprises and youth education organisations have participated in the carnival to showcase their innovations and research achievements.

     Over 30 talks and seminars, more than 300 workshops and over 300 guided tours are open to members of the public.

     Other guests attending the opening ceremony today included the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So; the Advisor to the Chief Executive on Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang; Legislative Council Members Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Mr Charles Mok, Mr Sin Chung-kai, Dr Elizabeth Quat and Dr Lo Wai-kwok; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Miss Susie Ho; the Chairman of the General Support Programme Vetting Committee under the Innovation and Technology Fund, Mr Stanley Lau; the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Dr Rosanna Wong; the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Mr Chua Hoi-wai; the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms Annie Choi; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Mr Allen Ma.
