"Circus in Town" to delight Hong Kong audiences this winter (with photos)
************************************************************

Three acclaimed circus acts, including one from Canada and one from the United Kingdom, will perform in Hong Kong this winter. Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Circus in Town" promises a range of fascinating programmes for audiences young and old to be held from December to February.

Canada's Cirque Éloize will stage "iD" from December 30 to January 3, 2016 at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. "iD" is a blend of circus arts and urban dance including b-boying, breakdance, hip-hop and more. Featuring 10 different circus arts, "iD" showcases skills such as juggling, contortion, in-line skating, stilts, Cyr wheel, hand balancing, straps, bike trial, Chinese pole and aerial silks, building to a spectacular finale on the dynamic trampowall. The scene is set in the heart of a city, a public space where people can forge an identity and express individuality, with a kaleidoscope of eye-popping video projections drawn from science fiction films, comic books and graffiti. The Montreal Gazette, Canada praised "iD" as "West Side Story gone hip hop circus!". Tickets are priced from $120 to $380.

"Bianco" is a stunning production from NoFit State Circus (UK), to be staged from February 17 to 21, 2016 at the Arena of Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Guaranteeing a completely new circus experience, "Bianco" is an immersive promenade experience that takes place above, behind and all around a standing audience. Internationally renowned for its dramatic live contemporary circus performance, blending jaw-dropping skills with untamed elegance and a subversive edge, "Bianco" was created by the artistic director Firenza Guidi. With a constantly evolving narrative set to a pounding soundtrack performed by a live band, this is both an impressive and stunning theatrical experience. "Bianco" achieved a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013. In 2014, the show toured to Perth, Australia, and around Europe, with the tour continuing in 2015. Tickets are priced at $380. No audience seating is available.

Apart from the two overseas circus groups, Hong Kong Circus will also give free performances. "Lay Down on the Slide" will be staged on February 19 at Tuen Mun Park and on February 21 at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza C. Admission is free.

Tickets for "iD" and "Bianco" are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
