Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 899 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 52 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (October 27).
  
     During the operation, a total of 299 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
  
     A total of 720 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 179 for other traffic offences.
  
     Three pedestrians and 127 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,100 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to September 2015, of which 672 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 38.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
