Public alerted to fraudulent phone calls purporting to be made by OFCA
**********************************************************

The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) today (October 27) alerted members of the public to fraudulent calls purporting to be made by the OFCA's hotline (2961 6333) with a pre-recorded message. The message says that the telephone service of the called party would be suspended and instructs the called party to press "0" for further enquiries.

A spokesman for OFCA said, "The OFCA has not made any such telephone calls and would not make any telephone calls with pre-recorded messages. We have already reported the case to the Police for follow-up action.

"Members of the public are reminded to stay alert and should not follow the instruction to press any telephone number if they receive such fraudulent calls. If they have any doubts, they should report the matter to the Police."
