The names of the 935 validly nominated candidates for the 2015 District Council Ordinary Election were gazetted today (October 26). The numbers for each candidate on the ballot papers, which were determined by drawing lots, were also gazetted.
Candidates in 68 of the 431 constituencies in the 18 districts have been returned uncontested while a total of 867 candidates will compete for the remaining 363 seats.
"Polling will take place on November 22. A total of 495 ordinary polling stations and 24 dedicated polling stations will be open on the polling day for about 3.12 million electors listed on the 2015 electoral roll to cast their votes," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said.
"About 570,000 registered electors in the 68 uncontested constituencies do not have to vote," he said.
The polling hours for the ordinary polling stations and the three dedicated polling stations set up at police stations will be from 7.30am to 10.30pm. For the 21 dedicated polling stations set up in penal institutions, for security reasons, the polling hours will be from 9am to 4pm.
