Film director John Woo receives Samurai Award at Tokyo International Film Festival

     Hong Kong film director John Woo was awarded the Samurai Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival for his continuous achievements in creating groundbreaking films. The award presentation ceremony was held in Tokyo today (October 26).

     The Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Sally Wong, congratulated Woo on receiving this prestigious award.

     Ms Wong said, "I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to director Woo, and express my appreciation for his contributions in creating cutting-edge films that have inspired many people in Hong Kong as well as outside Hong Kong."

     She added that Hong Kong is a city of creativity and Hong Kong movies are ambassadors which connect Hong Kong with the world, and reflect the characteristics of Hong Kong as a vibrant, open and cosmopolitan city.

     The Samurai Award commends achievements of filmmakers who continue to create groundbreaking films that carve a path to a new era. John Woo and Japanese film director Yoji Yamada are the recipients of the award this year.
